2014 BMW 5 Series Nominated for MotorTrend's Car of the Year

The guys over at MotorTrend seem to like making up various tops with various cars. After they ranked the best driver's cars of the year, they also set up a contest to see which car takes home their Car of the Year Award.

The winner was the Cadillac CTS for some reason, even though we don't agree with their conclusion. We're not saying that the two BMWs that were in this competition were better than the Caddy but some others might've been. Maybe it's a coincidence, maybe it's stupid patriotism, who knows?

One of the BMWs that entered this weird race was the LCI 5 Series. However, BMW USA couldn't supply a 528i or a 535d model for their reviewing purposes and they had to settle with the M5 Competition Package that was also the model's doom.

Of course, one of the things they complained about was the price tag, but this car had everything on it, from the new rear differential to the upgraded engine and the carbon ceramic brakes, so the price was expected to be over the USD100,000 margin.

Other complaints included the already old 'car is too heavy' and 'not connected to the road enough' mambo jumbo that simply doesn't make sense. Of course, when it came down to the BMW the car was too heavy but the 200 kilos heavier Mercedes and Audi models were not considered as such.

Sure, they'd like the car to be just as comfortable as a horse cart with wooden wheels and, if possible, to have only one driving mode (sport+++ if it's possible) but in the real life, all those customization options they complained about and the comfort of the car, make it desirable by people WHO USE IT EVERYDAY. It's kind of hard to understand such a concept, isn't it?
