2014 BMW 435i First Drive by Road & Track

The number 3 turned to 4 for BMW, at least for 2 models: the 3 Series Coupe and Convertible, that will, from now on, be known as the new 4 Series. The new Series was introduced last month, in Portugal, where journalists got to drive the new cars.

Road & Track was there to see the new Bavarian car and tested the brand new 435i. As you'd expect, this particular model is fitted with the renowned N55 unit that is actually a 3-liter turbocharged petrol engine that develops 300 HP and 400 Nm of torque.

As the 4 Series is bound to use only the best parts BMW has to offer, to honor the memory of the 3 Series Coupe, the engine was hooked up to the brilliant ZF 8-speed gearbox that really does wonders, always keeping you wondering if it uses a single clutch or two.

Compared to the E92 3 Series Coupe, the new car is a bit longer, offering a bit more leg room in the back. The new iDrive controller will allow you to use its touch-sensitive surface to get where you want to easier.

Bottom line, the 435i is a good weapon to go against the A5 and C-Class Coupe, it's better looking and better handling. With an 34 HP engine upgrade, it's easy to see the 435i as the leader of the pack.
