In the 4 Series range, people are still undecided whether the 435i is worth the premium on the smaller, less powerful 428i. Both have their pros and cons but in the end it comes down to personal choice, no matter what.
Whilst the 435i uses a 3-liter turbocharged engine and comes fitted with more kit, the 428i uses a 2-liter unit and is $6,000 cheaper in the US.
However, despite the 60 HP difference, you shouldn’t think that the 428i is lazy. The 350 Nm of torque will take you up to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.8 seconds and will help you out a lot when overtaking, even on a highway.
Inside, there’s the familiar, ergonomic BMW cabin that makes you feel at home in a jiffy. The front seats are extremely comfortable and supportive whilst in the back you get plenty of headroom but you’ll have to tilt your head if you’re taller than 6’4’’ (185 cm).
On the road, around canyons and in tight corners, the difference from the 3 Series is evident. The revised suspension, stiffer front axle and lower center of gravity allow the 4er to have its own identity, setting itself apart from the Sedan counterpart.
