The 4 Series came to the world, looking to take out attention away from the old 3 Series Coupe, meaning to replace the legendary model in our hearts. That won't happen to soon but we might find some space for this model too.

The guys from Autoguide took a 428i M Sport model out for a test to see how it compares to the old guy, the E92 3er. The car they had was fitted with a 2-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged unit that develops 245 HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque.

Of course, you'll get the 8-speed automatic gearbox from ZF as standard and the 6-speed manual as a no-cost option, for those that really want to experience the agility of the 4er.

On that subject we already talked and you probably already know that the 4er is not only a redesigned, 3 Series with 2 less doors, but it's also stiffer, wider and lower, a much more agile car overall.

The driving position is lower but it allows you to feel in control all the time, with good visibility and a comfortable seat. The boot is more than practical and the rear seats can be folded, even in a 40:20:40 manner, even though that is an optional feature.

Fuel consumption figures go from 23/35 mpg for the 428i models to 20/30 mpg for the 435i. The car is so good, that when the guys from auto guide had to write the bad things they didn't like about it, they put down the price (a debatable issue) and the blue brake calipers. Really?
