The totem pole of Audi performance convertibles starts with the 300 PS S3 and ends with the supercar-like R8 V10 GT Spyder. However, how's to say you can't do a little incantation and jump a few places.
Audi specialist tuners Motoren Technik Mayer (MTM for short) tried that with the all-new 2014 Audi S3 Cabriolet. Fresh off the production line in Hungary, this car puts down 300 PS and 380 Nm of torque from low revs. Even though it gets the expensive S tronic automatic as standard, it's still the slowest of the all-new S3 models at 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. MTM's chip tuning package increased those numbers dramatically, to 360 PS and 450 Nm of torque.

That means the 2-liter TFSI now puts down more power and torque than the 3-liter supercharged V6 in an S5 Cabriolet. Not surprisingly, it's also much faster, MTM claiming 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.8 seconds.

The German company really doesn't do things by the half measure. It also improved the S3 Cabriolet using a 44-pipe stainless steel exhaust system worth 3,200 euros and promising a more sonorous tone. You can also add beefier 380mm disc brakes for added stropping power and Nardo edition rims or Bimoto wheels for added curb appeal. Ensuring all the softness has been tuned out of the ride, KW precision-adjustable coilover suspension is fitted as well.

MTM's fully converted S3 can be yours for €62,000, which is €13,000 over the list price of the Cabriolet. It's a lot to pay small Audi, but you can't buy a fastest convertible with a 2-liter turbo engine.
