Audi used the 2013 LA Auto Show to announced that its A3 Sedan, which hits the US in Spring 2014, will mark the debut of the 4G LTE connectivity in the automotive industry.
The tech aims to offer “a secure high-speed wireless pipeline to the Internet”. At first, the Audi connect 4G LTE service will be used to improve the renderings of the Google Earth and Google Street View included in the Audi MMI navigation plus.
Just as important, the connection will offer swifter downloads and high-definition video streaming for up to eight devices that can be used by passengers via the in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot. Download speeds of up to 100 Mbps are promised.
Audi explains that the A3 range is set to offer the top version of its connect system so far. Among the features, we find picture navigation, read-aloud news headlines, Facebook and Twitter alerts; access to more than 7,000 Web radio stations; personalized RSS news feeds, and others.
The carmaker is also looking to the future, when the broadband wireless data connection will allow cars to communicate with intelligent infrastructure, as well as other connected vehicles.
Audi says it will let us know about the name of the US wireless carrier partner soon.
