Acura is recalling nearly 20,000 brand new 2014 MDX crossovers over potential driveshaft issues. The automaker says that the bolts that attach the driveshaft to the automatic transmission transfer assembly may not have been properly tightened.
As a result, the bolts could loosen and allow the shaft to detach. "If the drive shaft detaches while driving it could cause excessive noise and possibly damage the vehicle, increasing the riks of a crash," the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration said in a recent bulletin.
The recall is expected to begin this month, when Honda dealers will inspect and tighten the bolts free of charge. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 or the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
