While some years ago electric motorbikes were quite a bizarre apparition and were considered as an utterly eccentric vehicle, we cannot help cheering at the sight of their number increasing. With time passing by, more bikes will flood the streets and hopefully their price will be lower.
It's time for notorious EV manufacturer Zero to shed light on the 2013 electric bike series. The first on our list is the Zero S model, a toy created for the ultimate asphalt fun. With Zero expanding and updating the model range, it was only natural to see the S model getting some re-vamping.
The Zero S boasts probably the best resemblance to a conventional engine bike, and that's awesome. Nevertheless, the tweaked 2013 frame hides a 54 BHP engine capable to deliver a staggering 92 Nm (68 lb-ft) torque. Such torque rivals that of big dual-sport bikes such as the KTM 990 Adventure.
In either the 8.5 kWh or the 11.4 kWh configurations, the road fun is guaranteed. The bigger battery version is said to reach 95 mph (~ 152 km/h) and last for 137 miles (220 km) around the city, in a moderate scenario. Thus, the Zero S can carry you around for 70 miles (112 km) at 70 mph (112 km/h) or 85 miles (137 km) at 55 mph (88 km/h).
The new S model comes with a seat for rider and passenger, passenger footpegs, and no-nonsense Nissin brakes. Zero S also boasts the new CHAdeMo charging system, the potential future industry-standard. Using a common charger, the large battery charges from zero to full in just under 8 hours.
