Not good weekend for Pata Honda, as one of their star riders, Leon Haslam broke on of his legs in the first free practice and will not be racing in two weeks at Monza, in Italy, while prospects for seeing him racing in the home round at Donnington, UK, are also rather grim.
Victim of inclement weather conditions, Haslam crashed and was unfortunate enough to catch his foot in the wheel. He was ruched at the hospital and got pins in his left tibia and fibula, and will start intensive recovery procedures.
The two races also saw big names retiring: BMW's Marco Melandri during race 1, Jules Cluzel of Fixi Crescent Suzuki, Vittorio Iannuzzo and Davide Giugliano in the second run.
While we were anticipating a terrible battle between Aprilia and BMW, the big winners of the first two SBK rounds, the Dutch leg of the Superbike championship saw Kawasaki Racing team shining bright.
Race one was won by Team Green Tom Sykes, followed by Pata Honda Jonathan Rea and Aprilia's Sylvain Guintoli and Eugene Laverty, with another green machine in the 5th. The second race brought Eugene Laverty in the first position, followed closely by Tom Sykes and his team mare Loris Baz, Honda's Rea in 4th and BMW's Chaz Davies in 5th.
Current standings have Aprilia riders Guintoli and Laverty, leading the series with 111 and 83 points respectively, followed by Davies and his BMW (83), Kawasaki's Sykes in 4th with 83 points and Honda's Rea with 63.
The next WSBK round will be in Monza, Italy, May 12.
