The latest news from the “recall” area comes from Volvo, which is calling back 300 units of the XC70 and S80 models due to an issue with the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), as announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The Central Electronic Module might come with an error that results in the “TPMS Service Required” message to be displayed after the car is driven for 15 minutes (shorter trips will lead to the accumulation of this value).
"The error will prevent the tire pressure monitoring system from warning the driver that a tire needs air. A malfunctioning tire pressure monitoring system cannot warn a driver that a tire is under-inflated. Under-inflated tires can result in tire overloading and overheating, which could lead to a blowout and possible crash,” the NHTSA statement tells us.
Volvo hasn’t announced a date for the recall yet, but when this kicks off, dealers will replace the TPMS free of charge. You can contact the automotive producer at 1-800-458-1552.
