The picnic basket has a powerful new turbo engine and all-wheel drive. Can you guess what we’re talking about?
Yes, the R version of the VW Golf Cabriolet has become an official machine, having been revealed in a sort of teaser video posted on the MyVolkswagen Youtube channel. No photos, no press information... nothing but a video.
The car looks pretty much the same as the concept that previewed it at last year’s Worthersee. It has the same body kit, exhaust and wheels as a Golf R would and a black fabric roof. The odd thing is, the car is quite clearly a variant of the Golf VI.
270 PS of power and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque should be delivered from the 2-liter turbo engine to all four wheel. Expect 0 to 100 km/h to come up in about 6 seconds and a limited top speed due to the roof.
