Cliche or not, the all-new Toyota RAV4 has grown up from rough-around-the-edges unsophisticated hatchback with tail mounted spare and surfboards on top, to a stylish, comfortable, spacious, easy-to-drive family SUV.
At least that is what iAfrica said, after testing it recently. Their RAV4 was powered by a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel engine providing 110 kW (150 hp) and 340 Nm.
They found the steering “predictable light” while the ride was “excellent on over most surfaces.” On the road, it felt stable, despite its weight and height, while the Sport button made the steering sharper and improved throttle response.
The 100mm-longer wheelbase offers increased interior space, trimmed in black, easy-to-clean fabric, while the gear lever and handbrake gaiters use vinyl.
