Built on a revised version of the S-series platform, the new 14th-generation Toyota Crown is ready to enter production at Toyota City, Japan, featuring more luxury features than ever. The two new models come in the form of the Crown Royal series, which is a more comfortable and luxurious car, and the Crown Athlete with sporty styling and features.
We’ve already shown you a complete photo gallery of the two new sedans and told you about the engine range, so this article is going to be about the details that make this a Lexus-beater.

For example, the Crown Hybrid is powered by a new 2.5-liter petrol engine that features D-4S injection technology. It’s coupled to an electric motor that can drive the car on its own and a CVT gearbox with pre-selected speeds.

Taking cues from the Volvo V40, the Crown features a pop-up hood that instantly lifts the rear of the hood in the event of a collision with a pedestrian, thus widening the space between the hood and the hard engine, reducing the severity of the injuries.

The 2013 Crown Royale features a soft-close trunk that can also be opened from inside the car via a small button on the door.

The car has been equipped with advanced crash avoidance systems, like a radar-based detector that automatically engages the brakes if it thinks you’re too close for comfort.
