The Toyota Corolla hatch sold this year in Australia is actually the car sold in Europe and Japan as the Auris hatch. With a significantly better design and a revised platform and some familiar touches.
The bad news is that in Australia, it's only available with the 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with 103kW (up 3kW). No diesel or hybrid.

But, even taking that into account, it remains CarAdvice says it's still one of the most attractive small cars you can buy for under AUD20,000 (prices start at AUD19,990). Toyota have also replaced the dodgy old four-speed automatic with a seven-speed CVT, so economy should be much better.

The engine can sound harsh when you accelerate hard, but that's something to be expected. CarAdvice found that the new Corolla is very fun to drive and engaging in the corner, something surprising in the small hatchback market.

This is the new Toyota folks, so no surprises there!
