Both come with slight styling touches, made to the grilles, headlights and bumpers. The interior has been revised, while the powertrains have been slightly boosted.

The Legacy and Outback both receive the new 2.5-liter boxer engine with double-overhead-cam (DOHC) producing 173 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque, and mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 2nd generation Lineatronic CVT transmission. In the case of the Legacy the model with the CVT is the most efficient, as Subaru estimates it will do 24 mpg city, 32 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined.

The 256 hp 3.6-liter boxer six-cylinder is still available, mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox.

Also, for the 2013 models a new EyeSight assist system combines the usual systems - Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-CollisionBraking and Vehicle Lane Departure Warning.
