The all-new 2013 Skoda Octavia has barely been officially revealed for less than a week, and already we have more news from the Czech manufacturer. Now, it is the sporty hot-hatch version of the Octavia, the RS, which has been leaked onto the web a lot earlier than anybody would have anticipated, since it was slated to be revealed in Q2 2013.
First and most important aspect is the name, as all older hot Skodas proudly wore their vRS badge, which indicated the fact that it was a more sporty version of the regular car. Now, the ‘V’ has been dropped, so we`re now left with ‘RS’, which sounds a lot better, and is easier to pronounce.
The pictures themselves are very poor in quality, but some details are clearly visible. For starters, the car sits lower than the regular model, but not too low, as it is the most usable of the MQB-underpinned VW group hot hatches, it gets special 18-inch rims, as well as a rear spoiler, which is slightly smaller than the one fitted to the outgoing model.
The front and rear bumpers are also restyled, and the at the front, the car now integrates LED DRL strips, while at the back, it gets large dual exhausts for added panache. Engines will be carried over from the sixth generation VW Golf, most likely, so that means buyers will be able to choose from either a 2.0-liter turbo petrol unit with 210 hp, as well as a diesel engine, also a 2.0-liter, with 170 or 180 hp.
The petrol model should be quicker than the outgoing model, as it has at least a 10 hp advantage, as well as a weight advantage, so a sub-7-second 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time is to be expected. Still, we are hoping some better pictures will become available soon, because we really want to see what detail changes the car gets, which are not visible in this set of photos, from autoforum.cz. We are also curious to see what they`ve done with the interior.
