We’re sorry dear readers. If you’re into boring luxury sedans, look away, we’re going to have a “we can’t wait” moment about the new Clio RS. This brand new, fourth generation model will make its official debut in full production guise next spring, but we’ve manage to find fresh footage of the car being tested.
The new Clio RS is a car of many firsts. It’s the first one to have a new 1.6-liter turbo engine with 200 horsepower. It’s the first one to have an EDC double-clutch gearbox that can shift in as little as 150 milliseconds, and it’s also the first hot Clio with five doors.
From what we understand, the bosses at renault forced Renaultsport into using the five-door platform since the three-door Clio’s market niche will be taken up by the next Twingo.
To understand why we’re so excited about this hot hatchling, make sure to check out our live coverage and photos from the Paris Motor Show. The interior is two generations ahead in style and luxury, the gearbox is really hot and they’ve also promised a 2 L/100km reduction in fuel consumption. It also has three driving modes which change the exhaust note and the throttle response. What’s not to like?
Well, there are a few niggles. We’ve managed to find out about a few other compromises from insiders, like the fact that the Clio RS 4 will have slightly thinner tires and no Brambo brakes. But we’ve confident the French go-faster gurus from Dieppe will not disappoint us. This video was taken last month and though short, proves the Clio RS no longer has any LEDs, something we’ve heard rumors about, but never actually saw.
