2013 PPIHC: Carlin Dunne Swaps Ducati with Lightning E-Bike

Carlin Dunne, the outright fastest rider in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb challenge will aim for a different record in this year's race: he will no longer ride his Ducati Multistrada 1200 and will hop instead aboard a Lightning Motorcycles machine.

He will attempt a new shot at glory with the new Lightning bike, trying to break the record now held by Chip Yates. We know all the times this year will be significantly improved because the Pikes Peak is now fully paved, so 2013 is sure to bring massive record-breaking in all classes.

However, we should remember that the road is now paved for all riders, and those who have been really fast in the past, have all the reasons to be even faster on a full asphalt track.

It also looks like Lightning Motorcycles will bring their solar charger to Pikes Peak this year, to boast on the green factor of their trade, as well. Which is of course, a very cool step the industry could take.

Speaking about the Lightning race bike, Dunne is amazed, according Asphalt&Rubber: “I have a chance to be a part of something even bigger, to prove something to the rest of the world by riding this amazing electric bike. And I have to say, I’ve been testing it for a month, and it’s insane. It’s power and acceleration is like nothing I’ve ever ridden. When you light that fuse, hang on.”

The 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will take place June 24-30 in Cascade, Colorado, and is the second-oldest road race in the US.
