Living in Stuttgart must come with all sort of benefits if you're a Porsche fan, because you can see the latest vehicles way before everybody else does. After the launch of the Panamera facelift at the Shanghai Auto Show, the next important car to launch this year is the Macan SUV.
This is the second time Toldi has sent us a video of the Macan SUV taken from the streets of Stuttgart in Germany. The prototype is camouflaged at the front and back, yet is easily distinguished by its sloping rear glass.
Easily misunderstood as something it's not, the Macan is quite the dilemma. Many people wanted a smaller, sportier version of the Cayenne to benefit from the powerful engines. However, the Macan is not such a vehicle.
It's actually based on the Audi Q5 platform and has been designed to be a cheaper alternative. The Macan is to the Cayenne what the Cayman is to the 911. It will probably attract younger buyers and will fetch lower price tags because it won't be stuffed with quite as much luxury equipment as its big brother.
It will likely be the first Porsche equipped with a normal straight-four engine, though we can't know that for sure. What we do know is what will go into the most powerful version. Porsche has long been rumored to be working with Audi's 3.0 TFSI. The results of their fine-tuning are already known to us, since the refreshed Panamera S and 4S models replaced their 4.8-liter V8 with new 3.0-liter turbo engines producing 420 PS.
That doesn't sound like much, but then again, it's more than you get from the SQ5 TFSI or TDI. We'll know what sort of money Porsche thinks this car it's worth, but we expect the base models to be about €10,000 le
