The mid-engined 981 Boxster is lower and wider, also offering a longer track, yet it does this while also shedding some weight. At the heart of the beast is a 2.7-liter flat six that has been tweaked to produce a power premium of 10 hp (compared to the previous generation), delivering a total of 265 hp. This can be matted to either a six-speed manual or to an optional seven-speed PDK double clutch transmission.

0 to 60 mph takes 5.5 seconds and the top speed is 165 mph. That’s not bad, but this $49,500 sportscar also does the boring stuff well. For example, EPA figures for the car have been announced, and despite the decent performance, economy is top-notch.

The Boxster has been rated at 22 mpg city and 32 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined when fitted with the optional seven-speed PDK. With the standard box, the car gets 20 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and 24 combined.
