This might not come as any sort of shock to you, but after the 981 Boxster, Porsche will use the same architecture to launch the 981 Cayman onto the roads of the world.
Since Porsche likes to show its cars way in advance of any motor show, it’s pretty much useless to try and speculate when this car is coming out. But judging by the state of this prototype it’s clear that the 2013 Cayman is almost ready.
The engine you hear in the background of this video, filmed in Germany by Toldi, is the 3.4-liter that’s also found in the Boxster S and the 2012 911 Carrera. The flat-six engine should get you from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 5 seconds when the car is fitted with PDK and launch control is used.
We expect the output will be somewhere between the 315 hp of the Boxster S and the 350 hp of the 911, with 330 hp being the most likely figure. We’ll remind you that currently, the Cayman pack a 320 hp 3.4-liter.
