2013 Nissan GT-R Confirmed

Nissan will continue the GT-R series with a new model that is expected to be rolled out in 2013, officials of the company recently confirmed. VP of global product planning Andy Palmer told PistonHeads that the Japanese manufacturer will replace the current R35 around 2013 despite the economic recession that might turn such a model into a waste of time and money.

"These are very hard times and, as you know, we have had to make cuts to many programmes," he was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source. "However, it is very important to Nissan that we remain able to offer a diverse range of vehicles from electric cars, to LCVs and the GT-R and we continue to fully support the work you are doing here."

"In that respect, it’s not going to be a massive one-off investment," Palmer said in a statement for PistonHeads. "It’s more a case of putting a bit of money into the programme every year, to make sure we keep the GT-R where it needs to be."

Obviously, there are only a few details available at this point but it might seem like Nissan is planning to spend only a few money on the next GT-R version. However, the company plans to invest more money when the all-new model is going to be released but, until now, no official information regarding this particular model has been revealed.

If we trust these rumors, the new GT-R will most likely keep its V6 powerplant, with engine power and torque probably to remain in the same range.
