Nissan has some of the coolest car transporter ships ever built, ones which are as green as some of the cars they make. But there’s nothing like having a car built for Americans, by Americans.
The updated version of the Nissan Leaf is making its debut this week at 2013 NAIAS in Detroit. It features a number of technical improvements that are sure to impress customers, but the biggest difference to the last model years is that now, the Leaf will be built in Nissan's Smyrna, Tennessee, factory. Even the lithium-ion battery pack is going to be put together on-sight instead of being imported from Japan.
Just like on the Japanese model shown in November 2012, Nissan USA is introducing a new entry-level model called the Leaf S. It features a trip computer, push button start, power windows, 16-inch steel (!) wheels with covers and an automatic temperature control system.
Starting this year, the top-line SL grade comes with leather and alloy wheels in this cool design you see right here, in our live photo gallery.
However, we really should be talking about the tech. The updated Leaf has a lower drag coefficient, improved regenerative braking system and electricity management system.
