2013 NAIAS: Hyundai Reveals HCD-14 Genesis Concept

Nobody would have ever predicted ten years ago, that at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, Korean manufacturer Hyundai would be showing off a stunning concept, for a luxury sedan to rival the likes of the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Well, they are showing it off, and while we have yet to decide if it looks good or not, it does grab your attention!

Powered by a 5.0-liter V8, the HCD-14 Genesis, as it is known, was built to show the new styling direction the Korean company is considering taking, and preview the next generation Genesis sedan. As one would expect, the car features a tapering roofline, which is very coupe-esque, and some stunning scissor-doors, to finish off the look.

From the side, the car is very sleek, yet from both the front and the back, it looks a bit too fussy and cluttered, and the design elements don`t really flow into one another. Still, even if the production car will look a lot like this, it will still sell well for being striking, and not beautiful.

The HCD-14 is also said to bring about a change in the top spec cars offered by Hyundai, which up until now have been soft, wallowy machines, not designed to go fast around corners - they will be sportier from now on. The car was designed and developed in California, which is all the more reason for Hyundai’s US boss to be very pleased with it. He is the one who mentioned the shift in the driving dynamics of future Hyundais.
