We’re not saying that Ford didn’t do an awesome job with the current generation of Mustang, because the formula has been improved in just about every aspect, yet some serious changes are in order if their plans to turn it into a global product are to be successful.
A new generation is coming, probably in 2014 as a 2015 model year, but until that happens Ford has a lot to worry from the competition, so a facelift might be in order. That’s why, according to Mustang Daily sources, the Blue Oval will pack a bit of extra bite into a facelifted pony soon.
The current engine range will have to soldier on without the help of turbos and small capacity units. The current 3.7-liter V-6 and 5.0-liter V-8 should be kept, but the power will be bumped up from the current 305 and 412 ho outputs. Expect to see the bigger unit pumping 425 hp to the rear wheel.
On the styling front, the 2013 Mustang will take many styling cues from the current Shelby GT500, especially when it comes to the grille. LED will make their way onto the car, most likely in the foglights situated in the front fascia.
The biggest change will be seen at the back, where the lights that were so controversial on the model when they were introduced in 2010 will be replaced for ones that run straight across the back.
The good news is that we might not have that long to go before the new styling is revealed, as this might take place as early at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
