MotoGP.com has asked Yamaha Racing boss Lin Jarvis some questions about the rumored and awaited seamless gearbox, and Lin was kind enough to let us know Team Blue's plans as far as the new transmission is concerned.
Yamaha has been rumored for quite some time now to introduce a "seamless" gearbox, just like the one the great rivals Repsol Honda are running. The development has been long and we figure out that Yamaha are trying to come up with a better transmission than Honda. However, they're really not in a hurry, as Lin Jarvis declares.

He used terms such as "extremely good" and "extremely high level" to describe the new transmission, but indicated that it's the riders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi who will be able to provide more info on how the new technology performs after they will have tested it.

Track tests have been ongoing in Japan for some time now, and the factory riders are expected to meet the new gearbox for the first time any time soon, now. We might even get to see Yamaha testing the seamless gearbox in their private test at Brno, August 6-7.

Aside from the factory riders testing the transmission, Jarvis added that Yamaha might introduce it in MotoGP as of this very season... after the company will be 100% positive with all the performance specs and faultless, safe and reliable operation.

"Our engineers’ main concern is rider safety," he continued. "With a gearbox, you cannot afford to make one mistake. You make one mistake and it costs the rider points but, what is more important is that it could cost you the rider, so Yamaha will not introduce it until they are 100% sure that it is working really well and faultlessly," the Yamaha official concluded.
