With Ben Spies having to undergo more recovery for his injured shoulder, and thus skipping the Jerez round, Ducati unsurprisingly called up for the services of their development rider Michele Pirro... and his "lab bike".
Since Pirro himself is a former MotoGP rider, Ducati has him as the main person responsible for the on-track testing and development for the new Desmosedici GP13 machine. His expertise also allows Michele to be able to ride almost as hard as the other riders, thus providing racing-conditions data and impressions for the Borgo Panigale engineers.
With three wildcard rides planned for this season, Pirro and his lab bike are also trying to reduce the negative effects of Spies' absence as much as possible, until he will be able to ride again.
According to A&R, Ducati Corse are going to test several new parts with the Desmosedici and we cannot wait to see how will the development GP13 perform compared to the factory and Pramac bikes. Dubbed the platform for the 2014 season machine, Pirro's motorcycle could be the one to bring back the glory in Ducati's paddocks, so the Jerez race this weekend is even more important for the Bologna team.
