Bridgestone, the official tire supplier of the 2013 MotoGP announced they are ready to introduce a new Hard compound rear tire at the Bwin Grand Prix at Brno, the Czech Republic.
Bridgestone offers 4 types of rear tires: Extra-Soft, Soft, Medium and Hard, and the August 23-25 round will see a new Hard compound rear tire, after manufacturer noted that the majority of riders have so far avoided using the Hard option.
While the cause for this lack of usage is yet unclear and might be linked to bike design or particular electronic settings, Bridgestone officials hope the new compound will solve the issue. An agreement between Bridgestone, Dorna Sports and IRTA ruled that the MSMA (former factory) teams can now choose up to 8 softer tires starting with the Czech Republic round through the last race, regardless of the effectiveness of the new compound.
Bridgestone Tyre Development Department Chief Engineer Masao Azuma told MotoGP.com that such a regulation was needed due to the insufficient testing prior to a permanent introduction into the allocation.
