Marc Marquez clawed his 6th victory in his debut season, managing to squeeze past Jorge Lorenzo and extending the gap to 39 points. However, Marquez was involved in a clash with his team mate Dani Pedrosa in lap 6, followed by a highside crash of the last year's runner-up, possibly the worst birthday present he ever got.
Repsol Honda technicians quickly found what caused Pedrosa's highside, in the shape of a severed speed sensor cable, linked to the traction control system. As the Spaniard exited the turn and opened the throttle, disaster stroke, with the bike accelerating out of control and making it impossible to maintain direction. Luckily, the bike sustained more damage than Pedrosa, and he was almost unscathed, save for the usual shake of a crash.

Pedrosa out early in the race provided the other riders behind him with an unexpected "gift". Lorenzo could not keep up with the very fast pace Marquez put up at Aragon, as himself declared, and had to settle for the second position. His team mate Valentino Rossi came in third, after getting the best from Alvaro Bautista after and intense battle.

Bradl came in 5th, with Crutchlow behind him after a disappointing and "useless race" as the Brit himself said. The other Tech3 rider, Bradley Smith, finished 7th, with three Ducati completing the top 10: Dovizioso, Hayden and Iannone.

Yonny Hernandez finished his first race on Pramac Ducati machinery on a respectable place 12, while his PBM replacement Damian Cudlin failed to finish due to gearbox problems.

Next MotoGP round is in Malaysia at Sepang, October 13. Marquez is leading the championship with 278 points, followed by Lorenzo, 239, Pedrosa stalled at 219. Rossi closed the gap between him and Pedrosa to 34 points, while Crutchlow, 5th in the world standings, has 156 points.

All in all, happy birthday Dani Pedrosa!
