Leading the first 3 of the four free practices, Dani Pedrosa was unable to harness the same energy and set a high pace in the qualifying sessions, managing to be only the fifth-fastest rider at Sepang, Malaysia. His rookie tea mate Marc Marquez clinched the 8th pole of the season, also becoming a sure winner of the BMW M Award.
Marquez lapped a 2m00s011 pole, beating the record the new to-be MotoGP Hall of Fame Legend Casey Stoner set 6 years ago.

The front row at Sepang sees Valentino Rossi and Cal Crutchlow, both some 3.5 tenths of a second behind Marquez, but really close to each other. The second row is occupied by Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa and Alvaro Bautista, who seems to feel better and better aboard his Go&FUN Honda Gresini machine.

A noticeable improvement for Aleix Espargaro, as well as the Spaniard got up in the 09th position on the grid.

Bad news for LCR Honda, as Stefan Bradl lowsided in Turn 1 during the last free practice and has a fractured ankle. He's most likely out for the weekend (at least), unfortunately.

Rain is expected for the Sunday race, and it will be interesting to see how Lorenzo and Pedrosa will manage the 39 and 59 gaps each one has from Marquez. The MotoGP race starts at 4pm local time (GMT +8).
