2013 MotoGP: Marquez 0.001 Seconds Faster than Lorenzo

Free Practice 2 and 3 at the Losail circuit in Qatar saw rookie Marc Marquez stepping in the first position and leading these two stages. While during FP2 Marquez had a 0.268s lead over Lorenzo, the latter managed to be faster in FP3 and closed the gap to an amazing 1 thousandth of a second.

The top 10 has remained almost unchanged during FP2 and 3, with Rossi and Crutchlow switching back and forth on positions 3 and 4, and Dovizioso and his Ducati managing to climb to place 5 in the third practice.

Pedrosa is still not happy with the grip at Losail and declared he is now focusing on the race itself, as the bad condition of the track (namely the dust) leaves little to no room for big changes in the bike setup. “The track isn’t in good condition this year and I don’t think that this will change; maybe it will improve slightly as more laps are completed. However, this doesn’t mean making any big changes to the bike – just improving the setup for the conditions we have” Pedrosa said.

Tonight the Losail circuit will see the last 30 minutes of the FP4 followed by the first Qualifying session. Accoriding to the actual MotoGP rules, the Q1 will decide the grid positions 13 and below, as the fastest two riders will make it to Q2 and battle for the first 12 places and the pole position.
