Three rounds until the 2013 MotoGP season reaches its end, the world standing is led by Repsol Honda rookie Marc Marquez, who is now closer than ever to secure the premiere class title. The next racing weekend at Phillip Island in Australia could seal the championship and secure Marquez the world champion title.
The last rookie to win the premiere class world title was Kenny Roberts, and his 1978 performance still stands to the day. However. With Marc Marquez already leading Jorge Lorenzo and team mate Dani Pedrosa by 43 and 54 points, respectively, clinching the title is now a matter of one or two weekends, if nothing really bad happens, such as crashes, engine failures and the like.

Marquez seized his Moto2 world title in 2012 at the very same Australian circuit and we might see history repeating. MotoGP.com has dome some math, and here are several scenarios which would see Marc Marquez becoming the 2013 World Champion at Phillip Island.

- Marquez wins and Lorenzo finishes third or lower
- Marquez finishes second, Lorenzo fifth or lower and Pedrosa does not win
- Marquez finishes third, Lorenzo eighth or lower and Pedrosa does not win
- Marquez finishes fourth, Lorenzo 11th or lower and Pedrosa does not win or finish second
- Marquez finishes fifth, Lorenzo 13th or lower and Pedrosa does not finish on the podium
- Marquez finishes sixth, Lorenzo 14th or lower and Pedrosa does not finish on the podium
- Marquez finishes seventh, Lorenzo 15th or lower and Pedrosa does not finish on the podium

Marquez finishes eighth, Lorenzo fails to score and Pedrosa does not finish in the top four.

Write these down and hit the bookies, as this weekend it's going to be diehard racing in Oz and we might see the battle for the supreme title coming to an early end.

Down the chart, we might also see serious battles for other positions, as some small gaps could be filled in three races' time. Crutchlow will definitely try to beat Rossi, as the British is now 5th with 166 points, all over the Italian, who has 198.

Bradl (135) will ride hard to get the better of Bautista (136), in case the doctors say the German, who fractured and ankle at Sepang and missed the race, is fit. Smith can gun down Hayden, as the Englishman is at the 89-point mark, 13 points behind the Kentucky Kid.

Aleix Espargaro, the top CRT rider has 83 points and we might see him taking sight of both Smith and Hayden, for a place among the top 10 world riders.
