Being a MotoGP riders is not exactly the safest job out there, and this weekend is time for Bradley Smith to experience this first-hand.
Cal Cutchlow's team mate Smith only did 14 laps yesterday at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, during the official post-race test session, as he was heading for the Quiron Dexeus University Hospital for a skin graft to repair his left pinky, damaged during a hard crash in practice at Mugello, Italy, more than 2 weeks ago.
At the same time, Bradley Smith mentioned that a screw was to be inserted in his scaphoid bone (one of the wrist bones, see pics below), to mend the injuries and help him get in better shape sooner.
Smith told MotoGP that the Sachsenring and Laguna Seca are his most important races, and he wants to be in top form by then: "The next few races will have a lot of left-handers and that is where I am struggling the most, so I believe it is time to make sure I am 100% fit. Now is a good time and it will give me a few days of recovery before Assen. The most important thing is to be ready for the Sachsenring and Laguna Seca."
The Yamaha Tech 3 rider will be operated by the reputed Dr. Xavier Mir, the fix-them-all genius of the MotoGP riders who has just attended to Hiroshi Aoyama, after his severe crash this weekend. Aoyama was substituted by Javier del Amor, who finished 15th and thus gained 1 point for team Avintia Blusens.
