Team Ignite Pramac Ducati will replace Ben Spies with the factory test rider Michele Pirro for the French round of the 2013 MotoGP season to be hosted by the legendary circuit Le Mans on May 19.
Ben Spies was advised by his doctors that he should continue the intensive recovery program and skip the Le Mans race. The American rider suffered severe pectoral muscle pains during the race at the COTA, more than two weeks ago, and was forced to miss the Jerez round.

Though we all expected Ducati to replace him with the test rider Michele Pirro, the Borgo Panigale squad decided to let Andrea Iannone race alone, and used Pirro as a wildcard aboard the Desmosedici "laboratory bike".

Pirro finished the Jerez round in the 11th position, while Iannone crashed after 24 laps, already injured in a fall before the race and riding with his knee cut stapled. Pirro will be riding the Ignite Pramac Ducati bike as Spies' replacement at Le Mans so it's a battle for points this time.

On the other hand, Andrea Iannone is in Barcelona, Spain, at the time of writing, undergoing surgery for arm pump, as he suffered pain during the Jerez race.
