2013 MINI Cooper S Paceman Track Test Review

The Paceman is MINIs first, so-called Sports Activity Coupe. Even though the car looks almost nothing like the other SAC in BMW’s line-up (the X6) it’s still good looking and offers you plenty adrenaline for your buck.

The guys from Edmunds have a special segment called “Edmunds Track Tested” where they take regular cars and put them to the test on the track to see how they handle it. The Paceman’s turn was this week.

The results were pretty good actually. Even though the Paceman is bigger than the Mini Cooper, it still managed to get a positive review. The car they had was fitted with the classic 1.6-liter 4-cylinder unit that develops 184 HP and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) of torque hooked up to an automatic 6-speed gearbox.

Chris Walton was in charge of testing it and his notes were actually praising the MINI. Braking was extremely efficient, with zero dive, wiggle or wander and extremely consistent over the entire test. The slalom test revealed that the car has excellent balance whilst the acceleration test proved the MINI has plenty of torque from even  1,600 RPM.
