The new R172 generation SLK should tick all the right boxes. Without the F1 fake nose, it’s much better looking and with a new 5.5-liter V8 with cylinder deactivation it’s fast and relatively efficient.
The guys at BenzBoost have released dyno charts showing the new M157 engine is rated at 362 horsepower at the rear wheels in stock form. We’ll remind you the car is rated at 415 hp at the engine and comes with an power-eating automatic gearbox.
This puts it about even with the 4.0-liter in the M3, however it’s not on the same level dynamically.
With some careful aftermarket witchcraft, the engine could be lifted to about 400 rear wheel horsepower. However, the SLK is the only car that uses this non-turbo version of the 5.5-liter, so very few tuners will be jumping at the change to play with this car.
It’s amazing to think that AMG basically made this motor to use only in one car, but then again since the 5.5-liter is so popular in twin-turbo form it shouldn’t be that much of a problem.
