2013 Mercedes SLK 55 AMG Exhaust Sound

We admit that the SLK seemed unnecessarily fat, unsporty and stiff when we tested it, but that doesn’t stop us from lusting over an AMG version, even though it’s got tree-hugging features like cylinder deactivation and stop-start.
Here it is in all its glory -the brand new 2013 Mercedes Benz SLK 55 AMG. Brash, bold, loud and proud are just some of the attributes of this V8-powered compact drop-top. Yet for all its AMG viciousness, it’s quiet at low speeds and should sound like a four-banger if you’re idling.

On paper at least, this is a lot more impressive than the previous generation, as the unit is capable of delivering 422 horsepower, but also 30 percent better emissions and economy. That’s because the SLK 55 AMG has been fitted with a F1 inspired cylinder deactivation system cuts half the cylinders when they aren’t needed. The Cylinder Management System can shut off four-cylinders from 800 to 3,600 rpm.
