According to a spreadsheet released by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the 2013 model-year Kawasaki ZX-6R will get a 636cc engine, instead of the 599cc unit powering the current model. The engine is listed as making 129 hp (96.4 kW) yet it has a 13,500 redline, which is 2,000 rpm lower than that of Kawasaki’s older 636cc units.
The document also gave information about the type of engine to be used - a four-cylinder, four valves per cylinder unit. However, this information is slightly confusing, because if they do move to 636cc, then they will be unable to race the bike, since it would no longer be a ‘600cc class machine’. The manufacturer may begin stockpiling 600cc frames and motors which they could still use for class racing - this is mere speculation, though.
The new ZX-6R is expected to make its debut this fall, either at the INTERMOT or EICMA shows.
