It looks like Ducati will not be quite eager to remember their 2013 World Superbike lack of performance, as Ducati News Today reports that this was the absolute worst season ever.
While the past years seemed to make Ducati a synonym for WSBK excellence in the early 2000's, the present situation is way off the scale, and not in a good way.
The series has been running for 26 years now, and Ducati nailed the title no less than 14 times, which makes more than 50%. Even when Ducati did not win the ESBK title, the Borgo Panigale bikes were in the top 5, with rather few exceptions.
Ayton Badovini is now 12th, and Ducati Alstare's star Carlos Checa has just announced he was going to hang his leathers for good last Saturday, after a 20-year career.
Hope for better days lies now with Gigi Dall'Igna, who came from Aprilia and became head of Ducati Corse, with a free hand and solid funding from Audi, and reporting to Claudio Domenicali, Ducati CEO.
Dall'Igna's magic touch might be what Ducati has been missing during the last few years for both their WSBK and MotoGP operations. There's nothing more anybody could do this year and most likely in 2014, but the future can definitely be much brighter.
