The title of this article is pretty self explanatory, isn’t it? Hyundai has the Veloster turbo in the pipeline, which will debut next month in Detroit. It will basically be their hottest FWD compact model, and will act as a sort of halo car in the segment, but European customers would probably rather have a hot hatch.
The only problem in our opinion is the fact that Hyundai doesn’t have the brand image it needs in the hot hatch segment, but they might be willing to risk it.
reports that Hyundai Europe boss Allan Rushforth is considering the introduction of a hot hatch version of the i30 (Elantra Touring in some markets), more precisely the 3-door version that’s not yet been revealed.
Power should come from the 1.6-liter T-GDI turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine, which will be fitted to the Veloseter Turbo, and most likely to the hot Kia Cee’d as well. The unit has been revealed to offer an impressive 204 horsepower.
