2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Unveiled With Awesome New Engine Range

We have really awesome news for those looking to buy a nice rear-wheel drive coupe right now, and it’s about the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, which we should call a facelift be are going to refer to as a reinvention.
Why? Because the two engines that power the car have been revealed, and to say that we’re impressed would be a true understatement. The Genesis Coupe should reach the North American market next year as a 2013MY, but it was revealed yesterday at the Korea Speed Festival 2011 in Yeongam.
The big news is that the 3.8-liter V6 has indeed received a tuneup thanks to some Hyundai GDI (gasoline direct injection) tech, but it will make more power than the 333 that was expected. The Lambda V6 actually makes 350 horsepower, which is a massive 43 hp brought by the facelift. So what, that’s not a whole lot more than the Nissan 370Z, right?

You’re right, and the Z is also a bit lighter, but what the Nissan is lacking is a more modern engine in the range, and the Genesis Coupe has one of thouse in the form of a 2.0-liter turbo. What’s more, the 2013 Coupe is a lot more powerful than the 305 hp Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang or the 323 hp Chevrolet Camaro.

Getting back to the 2.0-liter turbo, this sounds even more impressive on paper. Instead of the 210 hp of the old unit, which Golf GTI sort of power, we now have 275 hp, which is Golf R sort of power, but going to the back.

As was expected, both engines will be offered with the all-new eight-speed automatic built by Hyundai and a six-speed manual.

We don’t have performance figures right now, but we expect the V8 to at least reach if not top 155 mph (250 km/h) and reach the first 62 mph (100 km/h) in about 5.6 seconds or so.
