The Ford Mustang became more like the Shelby version with the 2013MY, so the GT500 became much more of itself in the form that will debut this week at the 2011 LA Auto Show. The big news is that Ford is calling the 5.8-liter under the hood of the snake the most powerful production V8 in the world.
The aluminum masterpiece produces 650 horsepower and 600 lb-ft, thanks to a new supercharger new cross-drilled block and heads, updated camshaft profiles and a new carbon fiber driveshaft. To cope with the extra power, cooling also had to be addressed with a bigger fan mated to a more efficient intercooler pump and a bigger intercooler heat exchanger. However, Ford say that the aerodynamics and braking have both been improved.
For the 2013MY, the Shelby GT500 can also be fitted with the optional Performance Package consisting of Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers and a Torsen limited-slip differential.
