Besides the standard Fusion Hybrid that we’re used to since the previous generation, Ford has reinvented itself and cemented its green ambitions with a plug-in hybrid sedan based on the brand new Fusion.
Called the 2013 Fusion Energi, this car blends green technology with a comfortable mid-size class vehicle. But it’s economy figure that impresses the most - an estimated 100 MPGe, which is better than the Volt’s 93 MPGe.
Ford has not fully detailed the PHEV powertrain or the performance figures for the Fusion version. However, it’s expedited to use a combination of the 2.0-liter Atkinson-cyle engine from the Fusion Hybrid and Focus Electric battery tech.
"With a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, it allows the consumer to be a lot more empowered," says Eric Kuehn, chief engineer of Ford's Global Electrified Vehicles.
