It’s a very happy day for Ford, as all versions of the new Escape have been EPA-certified at 30 mpg (7.8 l/100km) or better, with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost version reportedly setting a new industry standard for small SUVs in America 33 mpg (7.1 l/100km).
The base engine in the 2013 Escape is a 168 hp 2.5-liter, which gets 31 mpg highway and 22 mpg city.
Meanwhile, the 173 hp 1.6-liter EcoBoost will get 33 mpg highway and 23 city despite having more power.
Past but not least, the range-topping 2.0-liter 237 hp EcoBoost does 30 mpg on the highway and 22 in the city.
“The fuel economy of the all-new Escape showcases the continued success of Ford’s development of smaller, yet more powerful engines, “ said Raj Nair, group vice president, Ford Global Product Development. “Ford understands people want fuel-efficient vehicles without sacrificing power and space requirements.”
