Last year, the Chinese SUV market grew by 20 percent, almost triple the industry average. The luxury segment plays a big part, but as emissions regulations start to come into effect, smaller crossover vehicles based on car platforms are to become a prime choice.
Ford kicked off their new Chinese model lineup with three SUVs, one of them being the EcoSport, a car that made its debut in India. This ultra-compact vehicle will be aimed at a younger customer basis and should work well to bring Ford closer to the Chinese masses.
“We are working hard to secure the avid interest of Chinese car enthusiasts with these new and exciting Ford vehicles loaded with green and smart technologies,” said Joe Hinrichs, president of Ford Asia Pacific and Africa. “With the opening of our latest state-of-the-art brand new manufacturing facilities in Chongqing and the continued, rapid expansion of a family of vehicles in every class that Chinese consumers want and value, Ford is committed to China. We are ready to demonstrate aggressive growth this year in China, the most exciting car market in the world.”
