Chrysler Group is recalling about 270 all-electric Fiat 500e vehicles built for the 2013 model year over possible half shaft separation.
According to the automaker, the recall is being conducted to replace bolts that secure the vehicles’ half shafts, after Chrysler engineers “discovered two assembly steps had not been properly completed, creating a condition that could lead to half shaft separation”.
Chrysler announced that approximately 270 customers are affected by the recall and that each of them will receive free rental vehicles while their Fiats are being fixed, also free of charge.
While no accidents or injuries related to this issue have been reported so far, the company will check all Fiat 500e models found in dealerships and notify the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) “when the precise recall population is determined”.
The 2013 Fiat 500e is available in the state of California at $32,000 before federal credits.
