Hyundai brought the new i30 to the US in the form of Elantra GT, even though Americans have never been know as being keen on hatchbacks. But the subcompact market appears to be changing to the point of Europeanization.
Patent images for a Dodge Dart five-door hatchback have emerged proving that American automakers have also noticed the trend. The car that was replaced by the 2013 Dart, the Caliber, was technically speaking also a hatchback. What’s more, the platform for the recently launched sedan comes from an Italian five-door from Alfa Romeo, so it’s not that impossible to believe they are readying a Dart five-door.
Chrysler seems to have dreamed up a notchback shape, with a shape very close to the sedan, but with shorter rear overhang.
So what next, a Honda Civic hatch in the US? Who knows!
