Stage 8 of the 2013 Dakar meant a little bit of changing in the rding manner as the competition moved to the Argentinian plains (pampas) and rain took over the rally. After hard times in the dry deserts, it's now time to mix the dust with the mud and test the riding skills in an even harder scenario.
With pretty much all riders making navigational mistakes in Stage 8 and the road changing fast from rocky canyons to river beds, the stage ranking saw new names in the leading 10. Barreda Bort took the stage, followed by Honda's Campbell and Slovakian Jakes on a KTM in third.
David Casteu was 6th but he's still leading the overall ranking, with Despres 9 and a halh minutes down, a rather small gap, given Cyril's skills and experience. Ruben Faria rides his KTM on the 3rd overall position, followed by Chaleco Lopez and Olivier Pain.
Stage 9 will link San Miguel and Coba, with 176 km of connection and a large 593 km of special stage, with a sunny forecast. However, there's still water ahead, so things will be funny, too.
