Can-Am’s Spyder reverse trikes seem to have strange connections with the gods of fire, as another recall was issued, affecting 2013 model year RT models sold worldwide. The number of Can-Am Spyder RT roadster, model year 2013 vehicles potentially affected by the issue is 5,165, produced between January 23, 2013 and June 26, 2013. No specific VIN series have been made public but Can-Am is already notifying each of the registered customers.
According to official NHTSA and Can-Am sources, the problem is described as follows: “Under very hot ambient conditions and low speed riding, the temperature in the engine compartment may rise and thereby increase the risk of a skin burn or a vehicle fire.” Definitely not a funny way to put “Spyder” and “fire” in the same sentence, if you ask us, as these trikes have had similarly “hot” problems before.
We can only report on the official BRP notice which says that customers will receive a letter when the remedy will be available “The parts required to provide a remedy to this condition are not currently available and will become available starting in May 2015. Nevertheless, we wanted to contact you as quickly as possible to inform you of this safety recall,” BRP adds.
The repair will be carried out by authorized Can-Am dealers at no cost for the customers. In the absence of “stop riding” ban we can only advise 2013 Can-Am Spyder RT riders to avoid letting the engine idle for too long and thus stay on the safe side of things, even though the temperatures in the northern hemisphere are not that high.
Around 123 Aprilia bikes are recalled in Canada to have their output shaft inspected and if needed, replaced. These machines belong to the Caponord and Shiver 750 series, 2015 and 2014-2015 model years, respectively.
According to Aprilia, the screw which holds the drive sprocket onto the output gear shaft may become loose. In case it will loosen, the rear wheel of the affected motorcycles might lock up momentarily or completely and dramatically increase the risk of a crash. The dealers have received instructions on how to inspect the output shaft and replace it with a new correctly manufactured one. No accidents or injuries have so far been reported. Anyway, not exactly the year start we were expecting fror the 2015 Caponord...
For now Can-Am has no idea how to solve the problem
