When hearing about motorcycle X breaking another land speed record, most people already have in mind the image of the white salt plains of Bonneville, Utah.
These plains are an icon in the world of fast motorcycles and cars and they've probably seen more broken speed records than any other place int he whole world. Well, 2013 brings a change in this, as multiple land speed record holder Ruedi Steck announces the first European Motorcycle Land Speed Record Trials.

This event could become an annual treat for the speed maniacs, as the intended location seems simply wonderful: the Nardo circular speedway, in southernmost Italy. The first European Motorcycle Land Speed Record Trials will take place on the very Easter Weekend in 2013 and public access will be granted for all categories of races: manufactures and customizers, delers, private racers and tuners alike.

The timing will be an official business as the records will be homologated by an FIM-authorized timing team, so we're already looking at serious competition for the salty Bonneville lake. The track has been built in 1975 by Fiat, for obvious speed tests and is now currently owned by Porsche. The facility comprises a 6-lane (2 truck lanes) circular track with alength of 12 km and a 4 km diameter.

The huge diameter also makes Nardo suitable for quarter mile races and whatnot. So far, the fastest car on this perfect track was a Koenigsegg doing 387.87 km/h (241.06 mph). The inaugural speed trial will be limited to 50 participants, so if you plan to race at nardo, get in contact with Ruedi Steck or his Swiss Performance racing team.
